Tanglewood Houston Texas

Tanglewood Market Statistics and Homes For Sale

This Houston west side neighborhood of Tanglewood is evidence of just what proper planning can do to guarantee consistency, longevity and desirability in a development.tanglewood houston home

Purchased from the Humble Pipeline Company (now Exxon) in the 1940s by the William G. Farrington Company, the Houston area now known Tanglewood wasn't just outside of the city limits at the time -- it was prairie land! But that's a treasure for developers, and Tanglewood's developers took advantage of the ample space to secure front and side line setbacks for every home (which are still kept in effect today by the Tanglewood Homes Association) and planted two oak trees on every lot.

The original Tanglewood development, which first opened for sale in January of 1949, was just one section featuring 32 lots. Today, Tanglewood is composed of 15 sections which serve as home for over 1,000 homes.

What has made Tanglewood one of Houston's most desirable neighborhoods was its brilliant planning. Those two aforementioned oak trees planted on each lot in Tanglewood were not alone. No, as a matter of fact, there are three oaks on each corner in Tanglewood. That was the plan from the beginning to counter the prairie land like conditions in place when Tanglewood was founded, and it has proven to become one of Houston's most wooded areas. If you count its massive golf course at the Houston Country Club, you could simply call Tanglewood one of the greenest areas in Houston.

Tanglewood is zoned to Briargrove Elementary School and Grady Middle School, while high school students attend either Lee, Lamar or Westside High Schools.
